Ramsdale to Liverpool transfer proposed as Kelleher could leave

Aaron Ramsdale is expected to depart Arsenal in the summer transfer window as he searches for regular first-team football next season and, surprisingly, Liverpool have been touted as a potential destination.

The goalkeeper, who is part of England's preliminary squad for Euro 2024, endured a rather frustrating 2023/24 campaign as a result of losing his status as the Gunners' number one option in between the sticks to David Raya, thus making just two appearances across all competitions this calendar year.

Taking into account that Arsenal are likely to sign the aforementioned Spaniard on a permanent deal from Brentford in addition to links with Feyenoord's Justin Bijlow, it would appear that the writing is on the wall for Ramsdale at the Emirates Stadium.

So where to next for the 26-year-old if he does indeed depart north London during the summer? Well, there has been strong links to Newcastle United but they've reportedly been put off by his asking price of around £30m.

With that said, former England and Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson is of the opinion that Liverpool should make an attempt to sign Ramsdale as a possible replacement for Caoimhin Kelleher who has confirmed he wants to be a no.1 somewhere.

Ramsdale to replace Kelleher at Liverpool?

"I don’t think Aaron Ramsdale will move abroad, I think there’s a move for him in the Premier League," he told Football Insider. The one that stands out is Chelsea. Petrovic and Sanchez don’t seem to be at the level you want. That’s where Chelsea are at.

"You look at other teams in the Premier League and he’d fit into most teams. I can’t see Newcastle happening with Pope there. Would Brighton be interested? If Kelleher leaves Liverpool, there’s an opportunity for him to go and be a number one with Alisson.

"Look at the amount of games Kelleher has played this year, compared to Ramsdale, there’s an opportunity there to have more game time and prove himself.

"Aaron Ramsdale has got to go somewhere and he’s got to play. He’s been harshly treated at Arsenal. I think the way Arteta handled the situation was wrong."

Now considering Ramsdale wants to play regularly next season, it's difficult to imagine his situation would be too dissimilar from what he experienced at Arsenal were he to make the shock switch to Anfield.
