Richard Hughes has a decision to make as 'exceptional' player CONFIRMS he could leave Liverpool

Liverpool could be about to lose a player who featured 26 times for them last season. Jurgen Klopp was a big fan.

Caoimhin Kelleher once again confirmed he could leave Liverpool this summer. It comes after a season in which he featured 26 times across all competitions, primarily because of injuries to Alisson Becker.

Once the Brazilian returned, however, he moved back into the XI, sending Kelleher back to the bench. But The latter has had a taste of regular first-team football now - and he wants more.

"The season I’ve had, I’ve played a lot of games and had that taste this season of being a number one," he told a press conference this week.

"Whether that’s at Liverpool or elsewhere, that remains to be seen, my main focus at the moment is to be number one."

Kelleher wants to be no.1

Kelleher wants to be a no.1 somewhere - and that shouldn't be a surprise. Of course, the chances of that happening at Liverpool are incredibly slim.

However, it is complicated. Alisson Becker is currently the subject of interest from Saudi Arabia and while the Reds plan on rejecting offers, his future isn't sorted.

Alisson is about to have money thrown at him, essentially. If he decides to take it, Liverpool will need a new no.1 as they almost certainly won't reject a massive transfer fee for a player who actively wants to leave.

Kelleher could well be their best bet at replacing him. He's certainly the simplest and safest option.

As Jurgen Klopp said earlier in the season, Kelleher is an 'exceptional' goalkeeper and one who would be a no.1 at pretty much any other club. He's just battling with the world's best at Anfield.

We'll have to see how the summer goes, then. But it might take Alisson leaving for Kelleher to remain with Liverpool.
