Alisson Becker didn't hold back about 'POOR' Liverpool defending in front of him today

Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker didn’t hold back as he discussed his side’s defending against Nottingham Forest at Anfield on Saturday.

Liverpool put in a very poor performance at Anfield on Saturday - the polar opposite of their efforts before the international break. The Reds struggled to carve out chances against Nottingham Forest, falling to a 1-0 defeat in the Premier League.

That's Arne Slot's first defeat as head coach - and one he was not happy about. Understandably, too, as he watched his team consistently fumble chances to create in and around Forest's box.

But he was far from the only infuriated Liverpool figure. Alisson Becker, conceding his first goal of the season, didn't hold back when talking about how unimpressed he was with the defending in front of him.

"In the first half, they just defended, kicked long balls," he told Sky Sports. "Second half, I think with their changes, we didn't adapt quick enough and so we conceded three counterattacks before we conceded the goal - on a counterattack. So we should have defended better on those situations.

"We should have [stopped] the counter-attack up front and then when the ball was deeper, you've got to defend better in front of your box. Be more aggressive. Hudson-Odoi had too much freedom to do what he wanted with the ball, dribbling inside and shooting. Poor defending from us."

Alisson Becker unhappy with Reds defending

Alisson will be bitter about this one. His clean sheet left through no fault of his own - Liverpool just struggled to control Forest in that second half.

Tactical changes on both sides seemed to undo Liverpool. There was a period where the Reds switched to a back three and completely failed to handle Forest in the aftermath.

And as a senior player, Alisson has every right to point out the failures on Saturday. It just wasn't good enough - and things must change rapidly with the trip to AC Milan on Tuesday.
