Former Premier League goalkeeper Noel Whelan believes that Manchester United should sign Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
Whelan said that the midfielder would give the Red Devils some "backbone".
“It would be a very smart move for very smart money," he told Football Insider.
“If that is what you are going to be paying out for a player of his quality it’s nothing, let’s be honest. I go back to the relationship that he has with (Jurgen) Klopp.
“When you look at it, Manchester United have been lacking a player of that quality and character in the middle of the park. He would bring personality and backbone to the side.
"We haven’t seen much backbone from Manchester United players and that is something they need more of. Oxlade-Chamberlain leaves everything out there in the 90 minutes. For £10million it is a bargain.”

Anfield Watch Verdict
This has all come from Alex Crook claiming that Manchester United are 'contemplating' signing Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer.
The Times' Paul Joyce, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, has confirmed that the midfielder will be allowed to leave Liverpool this summer.
The Liverpool Echo has also claimed that the Reds would listen to offers of around £10 million for Oxlade-Chamberlain, as cited by AW.
The last player who directly joined Manchester United from Liverpool was Phil Chisnall in 1964 for £25k. Since then, the two clubs have not done business with each other.
The outrage from both sets of fans if the teams discussed a transfer would be unbelievable. No matter how good or bad the player is, the fans just wouldn't accept it.
That's why, in my opinion, this transfer definitely won't happen.
