Manchester United are 'contemplating' signing Liverpool midfielder

Manchester United could shock everyone and sign Liverpool's Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer transfer window.

According to reporter Alex Crook, as cited by LFC Transfer Room's Twitter account, the Red Devils are 'contemplating' a surprise raid on bitter rivals, Liverpool, for the want-away midfielder.

Crook also claims that if the Reds are willing to accept a knockdown fee of £10 million, then Manchester United would be seriously interested in bringing him to Old Trafford.

Anfield Watch Verdict

What a crazy transfer rumour. Among all the Darwin Nunez news, I did not expect this to pop-up.

Liverpool do seem very keen on selling Oxlade-Chamberlain this summer. The Times' Paul Joyce, as cited by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, recently said that the England international will be allowed to leave Liverpool this summer.

Then yesterday, Neil Jones of GOAL broke a story, as cited by AW on Twitter, claiming that West Ham United are also keen on Oxlade-Chamberlain

It makes a lot of sense to sell the midfielder this summer. He has one season left on his contract and he barely played last season.

The fact that Oxlade-Chamberlain is also on £120k per week, according to Spotrac, means that the Reds really need him gone to help clear the wage bill.

I'm not too sure how we ever gave him that much money. He's currently earning more money than the likes of Sadio Mane, Luis Diaz, Andy Robertson, Diogo Jota and other first-team players.

Most Liverpool fans like Oxlade-Chamberlain's personality and how he conducts himself, but he's just not cutting it for us at the moment and he needs to find first-team football, something he won't get at Liverpool.

However, regarding the Manchester United links, that will never happen. Liverpool won't sell him to their northwest rivals.
