Núñez hints at Alexander-Arnold Liverpool contract decision in training ground video
Darwin Núñez joked about Trent Alexander-Arnold’s potential move to Real Madrid at the AXA training ground in Kirby yesterday.
Alexander-Arnold's contract situation has had many Liverpool fans worried about his future for a while, with Real Madrid reportedly waiting in the wings to snap him up on a free transfer should he choose not to extend his stay at Anfield.
One report from Spain even claimed that the Scouser had already committed his future to Real Madrid and agreed a deal with the club.
However, new social media footage has emerged of Darwin Núñez jokingly saying “And Real Madrid? Ciao [or bye!]?” in Spanish whilst walking with Alexander-Arnold and Luis Diaz in the training centre.
Trent’s contract situation
No official comment has come from either Liverpool or Alexander-Arnold regarding the progress of a contract extension, but Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed “the squad is closed” and no new signings will be made this summer for Real.
Both Arne Slot and Richard Hughes have also confirmed that they will not discuss any contract renewals in public until they are complete.
The Liverpool vice-captain has less than 12 months remaining on his contract now and come the start of 2025 he will be free to agree a pre-contract with any over-seas club if he does wish to leave the Reds.
Should Liverpool fans be worried?
Although rumours circulated online recently that a contract extension had been agreed there doesn’t appear to be any sign that an extension is imminent.
However, it is clear that Richard Hughes is working to try and find an agreement with Alexander-Arnold as well as Virgil Van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, who are both also out of contract at the end of this season.
Alexander-Arnold’s reaction to Núñez in the social media video doesn’t give too much away and has left fans speculating in the comments over whether it’s a positive or not.
One thing is for certain, Alexander-Arnold is one of the best players in this Liverpool team and will undoubtedly play a major part in Arne Slot’s inaugural season.
He has only recently returned to training following a difficult Euros campaign with England in which he scored the winning penalty to send his nation through to the semi-finals of the competition.
Images posted by the club on Instagram have shown him settling back in well and Liverpool fans should be excited about what the Scouser in their team can offer this season.
