Award is a reminder to Liverpool amid talk of Luis Diaz EXIT

Liverpool received a reminder this week as a top player linked with an exit was named Player of the Month. Luis Diaz shouldn't be allowed to leave easily.

Liverpool announced on Saturday that Luis Diaz is the Standard Chartered Player of the Month for April. The Colombian wins the award for the first time this season.

It's a deserved win for Diaz, with the announcement saying he won it pretty comfortably ahead of Alexis Mac Allister and Cody Gakpo. In a month where Liverpool struggled badly, he was a bright spark - even if things didn't entirely go his way.

Diaz struggled in front of goal like everyone else, but his drive with the ball was consistently the high point of Liverpool's attack. Several of his efforts were simply unfortunate, too - he hit the woodwork several times in key fixtures.

On the whole, this was a deserved reward for Diaz and a sign of how much his confidence returned after an extraordinarily difficult start to the season.

It's also a reminder to Liverpool.

Luis Diaz's future

Diaz has been linked with an exit this summer. In fact, reports suggest Liverpool are talking about it at the training ground - this isn't just minor media claims.

There are reasons to cash-in, admittedly, while Diaz has his own justifications for pushing towards the exit door. It will still take a big fee to make anything happen, though.

But should it even be entertained? Diaz at his best is a magnificent player and there aren't many around who can deliver the excitement he can.

The fact his form has coincided with Liverpool's slump is brutally unfortunate, in a sense, as he'd be heralded as one of the best in the league if he were delivering top performances in a winning team. Instead, he's not quite getting the hype he should be.
