Tottenham vs Liverpool rescheduled – but not in the way you think

A push notification to Tottenham Hotspur fans might have caused a few panic attacks on Thursday.

An update sent out to club app users announced that Spurs vs Liverpool had been 'rescheduled'... Here we go?

In case you've been in some form of hiding for the past week, the headlines have been dominated by the fallout of the Reds' highly controversial 2-1 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which has led to an apology from the refereeing body PGMOL and an investigation into the incident that led to Luis Diaz's legitimate goal being ruled out.

In addition to VAR-gate, Liverpool also received two contentious red cards during the their first loss of the season. While an appeal against Curtis Jones' first-half dismissal was rejected by the FA, a Premier League panel have now admitted Diogo Jota was incorrectly sent off for his two bookings.

Speaking ahead of the Europa League win over Union Saint-Gilloise, Jurgen Klopp admitted he would like the match to be replayed (though he did concede it was unlikely to happen), while officially Liverpool have vowed to 'explore the range of options available, given the clear need for escalation and resolution'.

Spurs fans could be forgiven then for a moment of fear yesterday when faced with an update suggesting a rescheduling, as shared by @GoalscorerC on X.

However, the reality upon opening the notification was far less dramatic.

Instead of the Premier League game caving in to Klopp's wishes and calling for last weekend's debacle to be replayed, the news actually relates to the upcoming Women's Super League match between the two teams.

Tottenham vs Liverpool at Leyton Orient's Brisbane Road has been moved to 12:30 BST on 12 November and has been chosen by BBC Two for live broadcast.

Ah.

Liverpool Women started the new WSL season on Sunday with an impressive 1-0 away win over Arsenal at the Emirates, with Miri Taylor netting the only goal of the game.

The match set a new WSL attendance record with 54,115 fans watching the Reds' victory.
