Thuram TALKS, Reds enter Murillo WAR, Contact MADE for Cherki - Liverpool Transfer News Today
The countdown to the summer transfer window is well and truly on, and we've got the latest Liverpool transfer news for you today (Tuesday, June 4).
With Jurgen Klopp's departure and Arne Slot's arrival, the Reds are actively pursuing multiple targets to retool their squad.
Balde snubs Reds: 'No man'
Any hopes of Liverpool signing Barcelona and Spain left-back Alejandro Balde received a blow this week as the defender himself dismissed rumours of a move during a social media interaction with a fan.
The 20-year-old prodigy, who emerged from Barcelona's prestigious youth academy and broke into the first team in the 2021/22 season, has caught the attention of many clubs across Europe, including the Reds, who are eyeing a long-term replacement for Andrew Robertson, 30, with Kostas Tsimikas not stepping up when required.
However, Balde himself made his stance clear in a light-hearted yet firm response after a Liverpool fan asked him to "come to Liverpool in summer" on social media.
Balde, evidently amused by the suggestion, replied, "And leaving Barcelona in summer? No man," followed by a laughing emoji.
Liverpool commence Thuram talks
Liverpool have reportedly revived their interest in a long-term target this summer, with some reports suggesting that a move for Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram is imminent.
According to TuttoJuve, the Reds have reportedly "opened talks" to sign Thuram after the club's previous interest in the young Frenchman was sidelined by former manager Jurgen Klopp.
Last summer, despite heavy interest (and amid a lofty price tag), Klopp opted to sign Alexis Mac Allister, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai during the so-called midfield overhaul.
Now, however, the departure of Thiago Alcantara on a free transfer has left a void that needs filling, and Thuram, with his standout performances for Nice, has re-emerged as a prime target.
Reds enter bidding war for outstanding centre back
Liverpool are expected to join rivals Manchester United in a "bidding war" for Nottingham Forest centre-back Murillo this summer, according to reports.
The 21-year-old, who joined Forest from South American giants Corinthians for £15 million last summer, had an impressive debut season under Steve Cooper and Nuno Espirito Santo, making 32 league appearances across the 2023-24 campaign.
Having enhanced his reputation significantly, Football Insider reports that the Midlands side will value the defender at a minimum of £40 million - a price tag that is unlikely to put off suitors sniffing around the Brazilian this summer.
Slot blow as striker chooses Spurs
In what will be a bitter blow just days into Arne Slot's reign as Liverpool manager, it would appear that Tottenham Hotspur are poised to secure the signature of Feyenoord striker Santiago Gimenez.
The 23-year-old Mexican forward, who flourished under Slot's guidance in Rotterdam, is reportedly considering a move to North London amid the potential exit of Richarlison, despite interest from the Reds and Italian giants AC Milan.
Double swoop for Leeds pair
A double swoop on Leeds for Archie Gray and Crysencio Summerville could be just the ticket to get Liverpool’s 2024-25 transfer window kickstarted.
Summerville has been valued at £35 million and Ben Jacobs of GIVEMESPORT claims both Chelsea and the Reds have ‘discussed’ the 22-year-old internally.
The White won’t be able to hold back interest in Gray forever either and Jacobs states that Liverpool, Arsenal, West Ham and Brighton are all on the youngster’s trail this transfer window.
Contact made for French Lyon star
Liverpool have reportedly 'made contact' with Lyon wonderkid Rayan Cherki, with the French star increasingly likely to leave the club this summer.
Reports of Liverpool's interest in 20-year-old Cherki come from French outlet Sports Zone (via TEAMtalk), who claim that Tottenham have also approached Lyon over a summer switch.
Cherki, who can play as an attacking midfielder or on either flank, sees his contract expire in 2025 and looks set to leave Lyon in the coming months, possibly for a cut-price fee of just €25m (£21.3m).
Liverpool have 'made contact' regarding the youngster and are said to be 'in the early stages of assessing a deal for the attacker'.
Interest DROPPED in Brazil wonderkid
Luis Guilherme’s move from Palmeiras to West Ham is in danger of FALLING APART but don’t expect Liverpool to come back in for his signature.
The 18-year-old Brazilian attacker closed in on a shock move to the Hammers over the weekend, with it hoped that his arrival in East London might smooth the path for Mohammed Kudus to transfer to Liverpool.
However, the Guardian is reporting that the move is about to collapse owing to a clash over personal terms offered.
In fact it is claimed that the player and his advisors are instead thinking about a move to the Saudi Pro League.
Elsewhere Football Insider reports that the new Reds’ recruitment team, led by sporting Richard Hughes and FSG’s new CEO of Football Michael Edwards, have DROPPED their interest in Luis Guilherme.
Plans to sign the Palmeiras sensation were formulated over the course of the past year by the previous regime but it now looks like that interest won’t be followed up.
