Liverpool target is 'a level above' and Reds have new advantage to sign him

Liverpool are targeting a player ‘a level above’ where he currently is and ‘destined for greatness’. That’s according to one former Premier League striker.

Leeds United lost to Southampton in the Championship playoff final on Sunday. The Saints bagged the sole goal through Adam Armstrong and that was enough to seal promotion to the Premier League - and condemn Leeds United to another season of Championship football.

And with that, Crysencio Summerville is also set for another season of Championship football. The winger has shone incredibly brightly this season, scoring 19 times and assisting another nine.

It was enough for Troy Deeney to claim that Summerville was truly a level above the Championship and should be playing higher.

“Player of the Season was probably wrapped up in December, he is just a level above,” Deeney said on Sky Sports ahead of the final.

“He moves differently to everyone in the Championship, he glides past people, he’s the only real spark where they give him the ball and they know something is going to happen.

“He’s destined for great things.”

Liverpool want Summerville

We exclusively revealed earlier in the season that Liverpool like Summerville and could push for a transfer. The 22-year-old fits the profile of player they like - and things just got a little bit easier in the race.

After all, Leeds don't have a strong position to negotiate from now that they're without the Premier League's millions. It's also likely that Summerville is far more open to a transfer now that he knows promotion isn't happening.

And that makes this one an interesting one to watch. Deeney is right and Summerville is a much better player than Championship level and potentially one making an impact at the top of the Premier League.

Liverpool may just feel they want to take a chance on that - and it feels like it just became more likely.
