Three Liverpool players named in England U21s squad

Three Liverpool players have been named in Lee Carsley's England U21 squad for the November international break, while two other young Reds also received Three Lions call-ups.

After winning the U21 European Championship during the summer, England have since turned their attention to qualification for the next tournament in 2025.

The young Three Lions currently sit second in Group F after two wins from three matches. England's U21s started with a convincing 3-0 victory over Luxembourg, followed by a 9-1 mauling of Serbia in October.

However, a 3-2 defeat to Ukraine in the following match handed England's U21s their first defeat since Euro 2023 glory.

Three Liverpool players have been called up to Carsley's latest team, with games against Serbia and Northern Ireland coming in November.

Harvey Elliott is an unsurprising call-up. The midfielder was part of the Euro 2023 winning squad and also scored two in a wonderful display against Serbia last month.

Centre-back Jarell Quansah, who managed his first U21 minutes against Serbia, has also been named in the squad. The 20-year-old has featured eight times for the Reds this season and should have claimed his first Liverpool goal in a 3-2 defeat to Toulouse last Thursday if not for a terrible VAR blunder.

A more surprising addition to the England U21 squad is Tyler Morton. Currently on loan at Hull City, the defensive midfielder has been handed his first call-up after some impressive performances in the Championship for the Tigers.

There is also a call-up for Liverpool's Luke Chambers in England's Elite League squad - formerly known as the U20s. The young left-back made his debut for the Reds against Toulouse at Anfield, as did Calum Scanlon, who himself was named in England's U19 squad.

Chambers will be in action against Italy and Germany, while Scanlon will take on Romania, Japan and Mexico.

Trent Alexander-Arnold was Liverpool's only senior player named in the England squad for games against Malta and North Macedonia. With the Three Lions already qualified for Euro 2024, the 25-year-old is more likely to get some minutes under Gareth Southgate.
