Remarkable Anfield stat shows Liverpool dominance over Man United

A remarkable Anfield stat really highlights the level of dominance Liverpool show over Man United right now. The Reds are enjoying a fantastic period in the fixture.

Liverpool were second-best to Man United for a very long time. While the Reds did enjoy wins here and there - and a string of wins under Gerard Houllier - the dominance wasn't there.

Now, though, Liverpool are firmly ahead of their arch-rivals. Nothing showed that better than last season when they smashed United 7-0 at Anfield midway through a disappointing campaign.

And while that was a one-off in terms of scoreline, it was merely the latest demonstration of Liverpool's strength over United. Especially at Anfield.

That was the latest in a now-long line of consecutive clean sheets at Anfield. United haven't scored a goal on Liverpool's turf for exactly five years, dating back to 16 December 2018. And even that came in a 3-1 home win.

The last time United scored and avoided defeat at Anfield was 17 January 2016. So everyone can celebrate the eight-year anniversary of that one next month, should Liverpool win tomorrow.

Liverpool's run of form against United at Anfield is quite extraordinary. Since conceding their last goal at home, it's been 2-0, 0-0, 4-0 and 7-0. You can add 2-0, 0-0, 0-0 and 3-1 results since the Reds last lost to them at Anfield.

Couple that with United's injury crisis and Liverpool are overwhelming favourites to win on Sunday. It's difficult to overstate that.

It's one of the biggest games of the season - one where a win means so much regardless of table implications. Only, Liverpool are also trying to maintain a lead at the top of the Premier League.

There's potential here, then, for the Reds to make a massive statement win that boosts the confidence immeasurably. The only 'problem' is overconfidence.

Jurgen Klopp is usually good at managing that, though, and if he does, Sunday could be a day to remember and the latest in a long line of Liverpool successes over United.
