Ruben Amorim has admitted that he may not be Sporting CP's manager next season as Liverpool's interest in the manager intensifies.

Liverpool had identified Xabi Alonso as the club's priority candidate to replace the outgoing Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season, but he has since confirmed that he will be staying at Bayer Leverkusen for another year.

As a result, Liverpool have had to turn to other candidates, and Amorim is the man that's now the significant favourite for the Anfield dugout.

The Sporting coach has a release clause in his deal with the Portuguese side and the Reds remain incredibly keen on ensuring that he succeeds Klopp this summer.

The 39-year-old is yet to rule out a move to Merseyside and has now suggested that he cannot guarantee his future as Sporting boss.

'NO I CAN'T' - RUBEN AMORIM ADMITS UNCERTAINTY OVER FUTURE

Speaking in a recent press conference, Amorim admitted that he couldn't promise to being in charge of Sporting next season, therefore suggesting that he could leave the Lisbon side at the end of the current campaign.

When asked if he could guarantee his position as Sporting boss next term, Amorim replied: "No, I can’t.

"Sporting are dealing with their future and I will not go back on my word. First, we will win trophies and then we will see. We are on the right track.

"The future has been a long time in the making and we are outlining what it will be.

"I don’t want to dwell too much on the future. I owe a lot to Sporting and whatever has to happen will happen but there will be no pressure to leave because I owe a lot to Sporting. I am very happy here."

Liverpool supporters will be pleased to hear Amorim's recent words, which offer hope of the exciting young coach joining the club this summer.

The Reds have recently ruled Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi out of the running and there is still great uncertainty over Klopp's successor.
