Mo Salah is currently the Premier League’s most decisive player. Here’s exactly what that means for the Liverpool star.

Mo Salah is the most decisive player in the Premier League this season, with no one providing more ‘decisive’ goals than the Egyptian. Liverpool have been incredibly reliant on their no.11.

Opta point out that Salah has provided 18 goals or assists that either equalised or gave his team the lead this season. The only player to match that is Chelsea’s Cole Palmer.

The pair have played roughly the same number of minutes this season, with Palmer having benefited from one more penalty attempt. Overall, though, they’re pretty on-par for this stat.

Ollie Watkins, former Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke, and Phil Foden make up the rest of the top five most decisive players so far this season. Of course, there’s still plenty of time for the numbers to change here.

Mo Salah in 2024

Salah’s most recent contribution to this stat came at the weekend as he scored a penalty to equalise for Liverpool. The Egyptian also registered a winner the week before against Brighton.

It’s a timely reminder of Salah’s importance to Liverpool. The forward received a lot of stick after the draw at the weekend, with the perception being that he’s not really anywhere near his best.

And admittedly, he hasn’t looked perfect since returning from injury. It shouldn’t be forgotten just how vital he has been this season, though, while his efforts in 2024 have been remarkable even if he has been under par.

If Liverpool win anything else this year, Salah will have played as big a part as anyone. 17 goals and nine assists in the Premier League is a simply remarkable run, given his minutes total around 23 games.

But he’s not done - there’s more to come from Salah this season and his form could well be the difference between success and failure.
