Liverpool transfers: Real Madrid aren't the biggest threat to sign Luis Diaz
Luis Diaz’s dad made some interesting comments this week about his son’s future. It’s previous comments he’s made that should worry Liverpool, though.
Luis Diaz was back in the news this week thanks to his dad. Diaz senior talked about his son's future, bringing up how he'd like to see him play in Madrid.
Now, there was no mention of which club, but Real Madrid are certainly more likely to move for Diaz than Atletico. The latter don't typically spend big on established stars from other elite clubs.
Though, Real aren't really a threat here, either. Their left-flank already faces problems with Vinicius Jr. already playing there and Kylian Mbappe almost certainly joining in the summer.
Thus the Madrid dream for Diaz is highly unlikely to happen. Instead, it's another set of quotes from his dad earlier in the season that might bring frustration.
Luis Diaz to Barcelona?
“I truth is that I know very little about Barcelona at the moment. It is true that Luis is a loyal Barcelona fan and it would be his dream to go there."
That's what Diaz's dad said late last year - making the Colombian just the latest Liverpool player to 'dream' of Barcelona.
There are also more recent reports out of Colombia that suggest Barcelona are pushing to sign Diaz. It's one that makes sense, given Joao Felix's loan ends at the end of this season, freeing up space on their left flank.
Liverpool will undergo upheaval this summer no matter what - Jurgen Klopp stepping down assures that. Thus Barcelona will see an opportunity to put pressure on the Reds over Diaz.
Now, his contract doesn't expire until 2027, meaning Liverpool have no desperate need to sell their winger. But with a new manager coming in, the temptation could be there to grab the cash for any big signings he'll want to make.
Diaz's dad certainly seems to believe a move is possible at some point - he wouldn't keep talking about it otherwise. This summer might just provide the best opportunity for it to happen.
If Barcelona are prepared to pay.
