Liverpool transfers: Ibrahima Konate addresses 'logical' PSG links

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate admits he’s from a family full of Paris Saint-Germain fans but is NOT seeking a transfer back to his home city.

The 25-year-old centre back was linked with a move to PSG earlier this week with the French champions seeking to reinforce their backline.

With only two years left on his current contract, Konate was mentioned as a possible candidate for the Parisians.

It was also reported that the Reds would seek to tie Konate down to a new deal in order to ward off interest from PSG but so far no new deal has materialised.

He is currently preparing for the European Championship alongside his France colleagues where the World Cup finalists will face Austria, the Netherlands and Poland in the group stages.

RMC Sport pressed Konate on his future plans, but he insisted he was happy at Liverpool and thinking only about Euro 2024.

'We watched a lot of PSG matches together'

"I'm focused on the pitch and the Euros," he said. “I don't even think about it [transfer links]. I have two years left on my contract, I'm happy at Liverpool so my head is there.

“I'm French. Hearing that PSG is interested, okay but that makes me neither hot nor cold because I haven't had a conversation with them or anyone. I am really focused on the pitch.

"It's a bit logical because I was born in France and in Paris. I have six older brothers and the six support PSG I think, at least four or five.

“We watched a lot of matches together. There is a little story with PSG but I made my own. I played at Sochaux then Leipzig before Liverpool so I’m happy.”

Konate has missed a significant amount of football since completing his move from RB Leipzig back in 2021.

The France defender has appeared only 90 times across three full campaigns at Anfield, making 17 Premier League starts in total last season.
