Trent Alexander-Arnold is in the final year of his current Liverpool contract and has been heavily linked with some of Europe's elite all summer.

Alexander-Arnold, alongside Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk will all see their current deals end in the summer of 2025.

The trio can begin talking to foreign clubs in January about a potential free transfer which piles the pressure on Liverpool's new Sporting Director Richard Hughes and Chief Executive Michael Edwards to find solutions for three of their star men.

Alexander-Arnold has been heavily linked with a move to European Champions Real Madrid with fears that this could come to fruition due to his close relationship with Jude Bellingham and Dani Carvajal not getting any younger.

The 25 year-old has remained tight-lipped on his current situation whereas Van Dijk and Salah have took to the media in the last couple of weeks to address their stances.

According to Sport, it is believed Real Madrid are willing to open their doors to Alexander-Arnold if he isn't to extend his current deal at Anfield. They're prepared to make the difficult choice of potentially moving long-term players on to make room in Madrid.

Real's right back cover - Carvajal and Lucas Vazquez - are both in their final year on their contracts, with potential moves looming and that creates a vacancy for Liverpool's vice-captian.

It is worth noting that Sport is a Barcelona outlet so it's unclear how much they'd know on this Real Madrid story.

A strong start to the season for Trent

Alexander-Arnold, similar to a lot of Arne Slot's men, have boasted their talent at the beginning of the season with some impressive performances.

The full back's defence-splitting pass in the build up to Diogo Jota's opener against Ipswich in their league curtain-raiser set the tone to a very strong start to the season for Alexander-Arnold - albeit being subbed off by Slot in every game thus far.

The decision to take their number 66 off has been met with many questions. Is there more to it than just a substituion?

Former striker Troy Deeney had his say on talkSPORT by asking: Are they planning for if Trent goes or are they actually saying to Trent – there is a contract, you better sign it or we’ll play this kid [Conor Bradley]?”

Alexander-Arnold has been touted to be the future Liverpool captain and has always expressed his desire to follow the footsteps of the legenday Steven Gerrard.

It goes without saying the next couple of months are going to be immensley interesting, not just on the Alexander-Arnold front, but Van Dijk and Salah too.
