Top Caoimhin Kelleher suitors REVEALED after wantaway Liverpool star criticised club transfer business

Caoimhin Kelleher has AGAIN reiterated his desire to leave Liverpool, this time while speaking to the press on international duty with the Republic of Ireland.

The 25-year-old has been at Anfield since 2018 and has been the backup to Alisson Becker for almost all of that period, but following the club's move to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili for next season, and numerous declined approaches for Kelleher, he felt empowered to voice his frustrations of not having more first-term football.

In the 2023 summer transfer window, Kelleher admitted he came close to leaving Anfield to fulfil his desire for regular minutes instead of constantly being second choice, and in this most recent window, Celtic were named his primary suitors who looked tempted by Liverpool’s £20million reported asking price.

That figure would’ve represented a club record for the Scottish champions, but for an experienced international goalkeeper at 25 years old, the prospect would more than likely have been a solid investment.

In the end, while Joe Hart left following The Bhoys’ third Scottish Premiership title win since Steven Gerrard’s Rangers triumph in 20/21, a deal for Kelleher couldn’t be done, with Brendan Rodgers broaching 37-year old Kasper Scheimchel for a one-year deal instead.

However, with Kelleher now eager as ever for regular first-team football, we could see Celtic back in for him again next season, with Schmeichel’s deal up and Kelleher one year closer to the end of his Liverpool deal which expires in 2026.

Added with the prospect of linking up with fellow Irishman Adam Idah, whose Instagram Kelleher commented on last season saying “Love it you”, the move may feel incredibly enticing.

Details of Nottingham Forest’s Kelleher bid revealed

Towards the very end of the summer transfer window, Premier League clubs did try their hand at bringing in Kelleher, but Forest’s offer of cash plus Matt Turner did not reach the club’s valuation of the goalkeeper, as reported by The Athletic.

After having an initial bid rebuffed in last January’s window, the Tricky Trees are likely to try again for Kelleher at their next opportunity should new recruit Carlos Miguel from Corinthians not quite find his feet, with the club having a long-standing interest in the Kelleher.

But for now, Kelleher will have to stay put at Liverpool, and with new signing Mamardashvili not arriving until next summer, the Irishman is still set to have an influential role in Liverpool’s quests across all four competitions.

And next summer when he has just one year left on his deal, Kelleher may get what he desires, with plenty of different options likely to be available to him.
