Liverpool wonderkid Lewis Koumas set for Stoke City move

One of Liverpool's hottest prospects, Lewis Koumas, looks set to make a loan move to Championship side Stoke City after agreeing to a new deal.

Koumas was one of the most impressive in a flock of young talent brought into the first-team picture during Jürgen Klopp’s final season at Anfield and he is now reaping the rewards.

The 18-year-old has already made two appearances for Wales and became the fourth youngest player ever to score on their Liverpool debut when he netted against Southampton in the FA cup last season. Former boss Klopp hailed him as 'fantastic' after an impressive first outing.

Now Lewis Steele of the Daily Mail is reporting that Koumas has put pen to paper on a new deal with Liverpool and will be sent out on loan to championship side Stoke City next season to gain some more first team experience.

Stoke City finished 17th in the Championship last season but will be looking for a better campaign this year with Koumas to bolster the attack.

Kloppā€™s kids

Koumas is one of a number of ā€˜Kloppā€™s kidsā€™ who are now attracting interest from teams who want to take them on loan for the season.

Bobby Clark is wanted by a number of Championship clubs and the Reds also rejected a permanent offer from Pep Lijndersā€™ RB Salzburg for the 19-year-old.

In the same report Steele also mentions that Jayden Danns, who impressed on a number of occasions last season, was supposed to be heading out on loan but injury has shelved those plans for now.

Koumas’ football heritage

Much like teammate Clark, Koumas is the son of a former professional footballer.

Lewis’ father Jason Koumas played for Tranmere Rovers, West Brom, Cardiff City and Wigan as well as being capped by Wales 34 times.

A loan move doesn’t by any means spell the end of Koumas’ time at Liverpool. Harvey Elliot was loaned to championship side Blackburn Rovers for the 2020/21 season and has since been able to stake a real claim in the Liverpool first team.

Koumas' move to Stoke City will allow him more regular first team football and the chance to develop so he can work his way into Arne Slot’s plans over the coming seasons.
