'Not looking to sell': Liverpool REJECT late Caoimhin Kelleher offer

Liverpool have rejected a late Premier League offer for one of their first-team players. The Reds are not looking to sell.

Paul Joyce of The Times claims Liverpool have just rejected a late offer for Caoimhin Kelleher from Nottingham Forest. The Irishman will not leave this late in the window, it seems.

"Liverpool have rejected a bid from Nottingham Forest for Caoimhin Kelleher," writes Joyce. "Offer well below Liverpool’s valuation and the club was not looking to sell."

Kelleher's future has been up in the air all summer long, with many expecting the goalkeeper to leave. Kelleher himself certainly suggested he'd be off, openly saying he wants to be a no.1 goalkeeper.

That's always been very difficult with Alisson Becker between the sticks, of course.

But it was recently reported that Liverpool were planning for the season with Kelleher. That's despite moving to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia this summer.

Mamardashvili will instead play another year in Spain, while Kelleher retains his place as Alisson's backup for the campaign. Forest, though, attempted to grab him right at the death, with the transfer window shutting tomorrow.

Forest want Kelleher

Forest actually tried to sign Kelleher back in January. They put £15m on the table but Liverpool rejected that, with every expectancy that they'd be back with an offer this summer.

That proved to be the case - only no one thought the offer would come this late on.

With no time to find a backup, coupled with the claim that this offer was 'well below' Liverpool's valuation, Forest are left with little to no chance of signing Kelleher. It's hard to see that changing in January, either.

Next summer, though, will be massive. Mamardashvili will be an option, while Alisson Becker's future may feel a little uncertain. Then there will be Kelleher's plans - he's heading into yet another season as a backup goalkeeper and it's not a role he wants for much longer, if at all.

But that's all for next summer. Right now, Kelleher is remaining with Liverpool and has a role to play this season. He played a key one last time out, of course, with Jurgen Klopp labelling him 'A+' for his efforts.
