Chiesa CONFIRMATION, Nunez EXIT? - Liverpool FC news recap
Here is all the latest Liverpool news from Wednesday 28 August. A deal for Chiesa is close, Liverpool could still sign a number 6 and could Darwin Nunez be on his way out of Anfield?
Romano confirms Chiesa transfer
Federico Chiesa arrived in Liverpool today in order to finalise his transfer from Juventus.
Liverpool have agreed a €13 million deal with Juve and Chiesa has agreed to join the Anfield side on a four-year deal, according to Fabrizio Romano.
It is understood that Chiesa accepted Liverpool immediately after the Reds made an initial approach for the winger earlier this week.
The Italian has expressed his desire to play in the Premier League and has arrived in Liverpool today to tie up his move.
Chiesa was spotted on his journey to Merseyside and expressed his delight to be on the verge of signing for Arne Slot's side.
Liverpool could send Pep Lijnders 'gift'
Liverpool are gearing up to send Pep Lijnders a 'gift' according to Fabrizio Romano following Red Bull Salzburg's Champions League qualification.
Pep Lijnders has been getting on really well since joining Red Bull Salzburg this summer. Jurgen Klopp's former assistant has not only gotten them off to an unbeaten start, but he's also secured a sixth consecutive qualification to the Champions League.
He's also been busy bringing in former Liverpool staff and players, including Vitor Matos and Andreas Kornmayer as well as signing Bobby Clark for a £10m transfer fee.
But Lijnders' could be about to utilise his connection with Liverpool even further.
Liverpool move closer to signing Slot's ideal no.6
Liverpool should still be prioritising a n0.6 this summer and they could have moved a step closer to signing an ideal option.
The last few years have been chaotic for Liverpool in terms of the club's pursuit of an ideal no.6. Moves have failed for the likes of Aurelien Tchouameni and Moises Caicedo.
Meanwhile, this summer it was Martin Zubimendi, who ultimately rejected the Reds in favour of staying at his boyhood club, Real Sociedad.
But despite those failed attempts, Liverpool still have an opportunity to redeem themselves and could sign an ideal no.6 for Arne Slot. Especially, after their latest transfer move could have made things even easier to land the ideal target.
Liverpool youngster could be forced out by Chiesa move
Liverpool are closing in on a move for Federico Chiesa and it could change the fate of a 'special' Liverpool talent.
From the beginning of the window, Liverpool have wanted to bolster Arne Slot's attacking options.
An opportunistic move for Anthony Gordon was explored towards the end of June, and the Reds have been keeping an eye on the market ever since.
It feels like Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards have finally found their man. Chiesa is edging closer to a move to Anfield, and he's someone the club has liked for years.
Now the Daily Mail reports that if Chiesa is signed by Liverpool, it could see Doak moving out on loan and leaving the club temporarily.
Darwin Nunez's days at Liverpool could be numbered
It is time to address the elephant in the room. It may be a little premature to ask this but will Darwin Nunez fit into this Arne Slot system?
Granted, the No9 hasn’t really had an opportunity to make his mark in this new-look Liverpool team having returned fairly late to pre-season due to his Copa America involvement.
He didn’t get any minutes off of the bench in the win over Ipswich Town with Slot opting to bring on Cody Gakpo in place of Diogo Jota late on in the second half.
The former Benfica man did get 20 minutes against Brentford on Sunday. By this point, the game was won and he didn’t really get the chance to catch the eye of his new manager. It is worth noting here that he did complete 100% of his passes.
The focus is, of course, on the offside, but his use of the ball should not be overlooked, especially when you consider Slot wants complete control of proceedings, in and out of possession.
Liverpool youngster seals Blackburn loan
Liverpool youngster Owen Beck will move to Blackburn Rovers on loan for the remainder of the season, Liverpool have announced.
Beck has spent the previous two campaigns out on loan at Bolton and Dundee and has seen multiple clubs from across Europe interested in signing him this summer.
He will become the fifth Liverpool player to move on loan to the Lancashire club in as many years and will join fellow Welshman Lewis Koumas on loan in the Championship.
What Liverpool need to do to beat Man United on Sunday
Liverpool will visit Old Trafford this Sunday as they take on Manchester United in Arne Slot’s third Premier League game in charge of the club.
Liverpool have emerged victorious from both of their opening two games against Ipswich Town and Brentford and will now be looking to go three for three.
The Reds have won both games 2-0 and have looked impressive so far under new head coach Slot but Manchester United will pose a very different challenge for the Dutchman and he must take lessons from his first two victories into his toughest game yet.
Liverpool have been successful so far this season, they are yet to concede a goal and have dominated possession in both of their matches, but they are not yet the finished article under Arne Slot.
Liverpool wonderkid impressing on loan at Stoke
Lewis Koumas has enjoyed an impressive start to life on loan at Stoke City having scored once again for the Potters on Tuesday.
Koumas starred in Stoke's 5-0 dismantling of Michael Carrick's Middlesborough on Tuesday night with the Liverpool loanee netting his second of the season for the Championship side.
The Welshman also contributed to Stoke's opener as he smartly picked out fellow teenager Emre Tezgel to kick-start a dominant night.
The 18 year-old's impressive Carabao Cup outing follows up his goal from the weekend as Koumas netted in his side's defeat to West Brom with Stoke supporters already beginning to fall in love with the youngster.
Liverpool star linked with Premier League rival
Darwin Nunez has been linked with a shock move to Premier League rivals Arsenal.
The rumour caught on on Tuesday night that Darwin Nunez could complete a later summer move to Mikel Arteta's side, with the Uruguayan allegedly keen to move to London and work under the Spaniard.
The North London side have been seeking for a striker all summer and have been heavily linked to the likes of Viktor Gyokeres, Ivan Toney, Victor Osimhen before now being rumoured to eyeing up a sensational swoop for Liverpool's number nine.
Despite Federico Chiesa's move to Liverpool nearing completion, an Anfield departure for Darwin Nunez remains as unlikely as ever, with Arne Slot ready to boast an attack of six outstanding talents.
