Cody Gakpo has become the latest Liverpool senior player to endorse the appointment of Arne Slot as head coach.

The Dutchman officially began his role at Anfield on Saturday June 1, 2024, just over a week after it was announced that he would be replacing Jurgen Klopp in the hot seat after three years in the Netherlands with Feyenoord.

During his spell in charge of the Rotterdam outfit, Slot won the Eredivisie title, the KNVB Beker, lead them to the Europa Conference League final, was twice crowned Dutch manager of the year and arrives on Merseyside with a reputation for attractive football as well as getting the best out of the players at his disposal.

All of which ticks many boxes for Trent Alexander-Arnold, who last month shared his optimism with regard to working under Slot next season.

"I hope so, that’s all we can hope,” he said in an interview with Sky Sports. "I have trust in the club and who we've appointed so as a player that's all you can ask for is to have trust in what the higher-ups have brought in and I'm sure it will be a smooth transition."

Gakpo confident in Slot appointment

Unlike Alexander-Arnold, Gakpo has first hand experiences of  Slot's approach having played against the 45-year-old's Feyenoord and AZ Alkmaar sides during his time in the Netherlands with PSV Eindhoven.

And not only does the Dutch forward believe his compatriot's philosophy makes him an ideal fit for Liverpool, he's also shared a similarity between Slot and Klopp.

"I have not spoken to him before… [but] I do know that he has always made it very difficult for us at PSV and is known as a very good trainer, of course," Gakpo told the club's official website.

"I think so (if Slot’s style will be transferrable to Liverpool), otherwise the club wouldn’t have appointed him. If you talk about neat football and high pressure, with the latter being a very big characteristic of us under Jürgen Klopp, then that is also something we are certainly used to."
