Liverpool FC news recap: Reds beat Chelsea, Klopp, documentary

Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Wednesday 31st January. The Reds beat Chelsea 4-1 at Anfield in the Premier League.

Liverpool remain top of the Premier League by five points after putting Chelsea to the sword on Wednesday. It was a fantastic performance and one that bodes very well for Sunday against Arsenal.

But Wednesday was a news-packed day even without the fixture at Anfield. Here's our Liverpool FC news recap - and it's as Klopp-heavy as you'd expect.

Liverpool hammer Chelsea

The biggest Liverpool FC news of the day was obviously the big win. The Reds overwhelmed Chelsea at Anfield, with Conor Bradley shining, in particular. But this was a team effort and a brilliant one at that.

Goals from Diogo Jota, Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz won the game, keeping Liverpool 5 points clear of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League.

Klopp doesn't want to leave

Jurgen Klopp admits he doesn't actually want to leave Liverpool - he feels he has to. The German will step down at the end of the season.

Jurgen Klopp surprised football on Friday when he announced his intention to leave Liverpool at the end of the season. It's a decision that rocks the club entirely - there will be big changes this summer.

Not only is Klopp leaving, after all, but his senior coaches as well as sporting director Jorg Schmadtke. The Reds will move to hire a new sporting director and then take on the near-impossible task of replacing their manager.

So why has Klopp made such a massive decision? The Liverpool boss explained his decision in an interview with Rio Ferdinand on TNT Sports and admits this isn't actually something he wants to do.

Liverpool announce Kloppumentary

Liverpool FC have confirmed that filming is already underway on a multi-episode documentary series tracking Jurgen Klopp's final season at the club.

The series, which will be produced by Lorton Entertainment, is set for release at the conclusion of the 2023/24 campaign.

With the Reds still chasing success in four competitions (Premier League, Europa League, FA Cup and League Cup), as well it being the 'last dance' for Klopp's Liverpool, the series promises to be a highly anticipated look behind the scenes at a historic moment in the club's history.

Klopp has, somewhat famously, vetoed previous attempts to allow cameras for a fly-on-the-wall-style documentary. However, reports prior to the announcement of the upcoming series claim he has since mellowed in his stance.

Nunez sets unwanted records

It was a frantic first game at Anfield on Wednesday as Liverpool raced to a 4-1 win over Chelsea. However, for Darwin Nunez, it was particularly eventful.

The Uruguayan was especially trigger-happy in the opening 45. He might have got more purchase on his lob in the fifth minute, which was easily saved by keeper Dorde Petrovic, but he worried the keeper much more with his following effort, which grazed his fingers and then the crossbar.

His next clear chance came in the 17th minute when his left-footed volley was pushed onto the post by Petrovic.

Bradley sets wanted record

Conor Bradley sets new record for Liverpool under Jurgen Klopp. The right-back looks like a true gem for the Reds.

Conor Bradley scored his first goal for Liverpool on Wednesday as he bagged the Reds' second against Chelsea. It was a fantastic goal, too, as the youngster burst forward from right-back.

Bradley sprinted past Raheem Sterling to get in behind Chelsea, receiving the ball and finishing like a striker. His effort into the far corner was ridiculously good for such an inexperienced player - let alone an inexperienced right-back.

On top of that, Bradley assisted the opener for Diogo Jota. Jota admittedly did most of the work there as he tricked his way past both Chelsea centre-backs but it was the Northern Irishman who got him the ball.
