Here's our Liverpool FC news roundup for Thursday 1st February 2024. The Reds are flying high after beating Chelsea 4-1.

Liverpool are flying right now, competing in four competitions and have just beaten their Carabao Cup final opponents, Chelsea, 4-1 at Anfield. Things actually feel positive, just a week after Jurgen Klopp announced he was leaving the club.

Thursday was also transfer deadline day and while the Reds didn't make any moves, they did have a couple of pieces of news coming out of that. So here's our Liverpool FC news roundup for February 1st.

Liverpool reject Kelleher bid

Liverpool have rejected a late £15m bid for Caoimhin Kelleher, according to reports. The Reds won't even accept their asking price.

This comes from the Daily Mail. They report that Liverpool have rejected a late bid from Nottingham Forest for Caoimhin Kelleher.

Forest put £15m on the table for Kelleher but the Reds weren't willing to even negotiate. They rejected it out of hand - there's no chance of this one going anywhere.

In fact, Liverpool wouldn't even sell Kelleher for their asking price of £20m+. It's officially too late in the window for them to consider anything and they will be holding onto the Irishman for the rest of the season.

Liverpool beat Chelsea on Wednesday with a fine performance at Anfield. Diogo Jota, Conor Bradley, Dominik Szoboszlai and Luis Diaz got the goals - and it could have been so much more.

Darwin Nunez, for one, broke a Premier League record as he hit the woodwork four times in one game. The Reds really could have smashed Chelsea but will have to settle for merely a really solid win.

Jurgen Klopp was thrilled after the game, as you'd expect, and the boss also made some history. This was Klopp's 200th win in the Premier League - only the third manager to reach that milestone.

The Reds are beginning their search for a new manager following Jurgen Klopp's blockbuster announcement last week that he will step down from his role at the end of the current season.

According to transfer reporter Romano, Xabi Alonso — who played for Liverpool between 2004 and 2009 — is one of two men definitely on the shortlist, along with Brighton boss Roberto De Zerbi. However, the role of sporting director is likely to be filled before a move is made for the next manager.

The midfielder, who sat out the weekend's FA Cup win over Norwich as a precaution, came back into the starting lineup for the Premier League encounter at Anfield and put in an impressive performance from the base of midfield.

However, it wasn't all positive for the No. 10 who suffered a knock after a collision with Cesare Casadei late in the second half and needed treatment from the physio.

Mac Allister finished the game but appeared in some discomfort after the incident, leading to fears he could be set for another injury layoff — having missed six games already this season with a knee issue.
