Liverpool FC news recap: Alonso doubts, Carvalho goal
Here's our Liverpool FC news recap for Saturday, 24th February. Xabi Alonso is reportedly holding 'massive doubts' right now.
It's the Carabao Cup final on Sunday as Liverpool prepare to win their first trophy of the season - and guarantee Jurgen Klopp a trophy in his final campaign at the club. Of course, Chelsea have their own motivations to upset the Reds and take the trophy for themselves.
But Liverpool generally have a lot going on right now, on and off the pitch. They're searching for a new manager, after all, for when Klopp leaves in May.
Their primary target is Xabi Alonso and Saturday saw an update in the battle for his signature. Elsewhere, Fabio Carvalho scored a magnificent goal for Hull City.
Here's our Liverpool FC news recap.
Alonso isn't sure on Bayern move
Xabi Alonso has a huge decision over his future coming this summer. A new report suggests 'massive doubts' could sway it.
Xabi Alonso will have his pick of clubs this summer. Both Liverpool and Bayern Munich both want to install him as manager - and he could always remain with Bayer Leverkusen.
Liverpool will look to replace Jurgen Klopp, who announced earlier this year that he'll step down as boss. Bayern will also hope to find a new manager after calling time on Thomas Tuchel's reign - he leaves once the campaign is done.
Alonso, though, reportedly has 'massive doubts' over the Bayern job. That's according to TZ, who claim that the turmoil in Bavaria right now is putting him off the job.
Instead, he's currently favouring either moving back to Anfield or sticking with Leverkusen next season.

Mac Allister earning plaudits
Alexis Mac Allister has reportedly built himself a new reputation around Liverpool. The Argentine is fitting in nicely at Anfield.
Paul Joyce of The Times has written up a piece on Alexis Mac Allister ahead of the Carabao Cup final. It's clear that the midfielder is eager to win the trophy, even comparing it to his World Cup victory.
“I look at [my medal] every single day,” said Mac Allister. “That is what it means to me and to the country as well. It is the biggest game ever for a football player so it is something that I am really proud of.
"Hopefully, the Carabao Cup medal can be something I will look at as well."
Now, it's not quite on that level, if we're being honest, but it goes to show how driven Mac Allister is. He wants to win everything - every trophy matters.
And his attitude is likely a huge part of why the Argentine now has a reputation at Liverpool. Joyce claims people talk of Mac Allister as someone who 'sets the standards on and off the pitch' and that he's 'bought into what it means to be a Liverpool player'.

Carvalho scores 'stunning' goal
Liverpool loanee Fabio Carvalho scored a 'stunning' strike for Hull City against West Brom on Saturday. The playmaker is in fine form.
Fabio Carvalho started his eighth game for Hull City on Saturday as they hosted West Bromwich Albion in the Championship. After 34 minutes without a goal, it was the Liverpool loanee who found a breakthrough.
And what a breakthrough it was.
Hull worked a corner short to the edge of the box, with Carvalho picking it up 20 yards from goal. He took a touch and then unleashed an emphatic strike inside the near post.
Balague shares Alonso lesson
Guillem Balague shared a 'lesson' for all Liverpool fans this week in regards to Xabi Alonso. The Spaniard is a wanted man.
It's not exactly a secret that Liverpool would like to hire Xabi Alonso. At the very least, their former midfielder is very high on the list of replacements for Jurgen Klopp this summer.
But that's not the only list he's reportedly topping. Bayern Munich also want Alonso, with Thomas Tuchel set to leave at the end of the season. Alonso, of course, is also a former Bayern player.
Guillem Balague warns fans that they probably shouldn't pay much attention to what Alonso is saying. Even if he has agreed to something, it's unlikely he'll let you know.
“I would call myself a friend of his. We’ve been out a few times and helped each other through the years, especially as a player in Liverpool,” he told BBC 5 Live Sport.
“But, when he was whistled twice by Real Madrid in pre-season [2014], I was told he was going to Bayern Munich. I rang him and said, ‘Are you?’ ‘No absolutely not. I’m definitely not going to Bayern Munich’.
“Which he did the next day… I’ll never forget. It’s a lesson! He doesn’t give anything away. So it won’t be through him that we hear what he does next.”
