Jurgen Klopp has responded to Pep Guardiola's comments about Liverpool being the best team he has ever managed against.

After Manchester City's emphatic win against Manchester United, Guardiola said that Liverpool are the best opponent he's ever faced.

“Liverpool are the toughest opponent I have ever faced in my 12-13 years as a manager," said Guardiola.

At his pre-Inter Milan press conference, as cited by Anfield Watch, the Liverpool manager has said that City are also one of the best sides he's faced and that Pep helps the Reds reach the heights have done in recent years.

"I can give that back, easily. I could say City are the toughest I ever had, but Pep at Bayern wasn't easy either! We push each other to insane levels," said Klopp.

"I don't think City would get the amount of points they have had this year if we were not around, and vice-versa. There are a lot of games still to play."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Klopp and Guardiola have a very strange relationship indeed. The pair are always complimenting each other and they rarely say a bad word about each other's side.

It's a nice change from the constant digs other managers take at each other but for arguably the two best sides in the world, it's unusual to see.

Speaking in the Inter Milan press conference, as cited by Anfield Watch, Klopp praised Manchester City once again along with Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea side.

"If we were not here a few seasons ago [when Liverpool won the title], City would have won the league in February," said Klopp

"And if City weren't here, we might have been. And it's not just them. Playing Chelsea was on a different level in the Carabao Cup final. It's a challenge but we like challenges and we are used to it. But I go back to it, we need five substitutions."
