Fluminense president promises 'stratospheric proposal' for Liverpool-linked Andre

Fluminense president Mario Bittencourt has confirmed once again that Andre Trindade will likely leave the club in January – but insisted he won't be sold on the cheap.

Andre was a transfer target for Liverpool during the summer, but a move was denied by Fluminense, who insisted on keeping their 22-year-old star midfielder in order to give themselves the best possible change of winning a maiden Copa Libertadores – South America's Champions League equivalent.

It turned out to be a good call from Fluminense's perspective, with Andre starring as the Rio club won their first Copa Libertadores title, beating Boca Juniors 2-1 at the Maracana on Saturday.

Anfield Watch understands that Liverpool have kept tabs on the one-cap Brazil international since the summer and could revive a deal this winter when the January window opens.

One report from Brazil has claimed that Fluminense will seek offers in excess of €35m (£30m) for their number seven, while club president Bittencourt has now suggested that the sale could be the biggest in the Rio club's history.

“We are waiting. Today, there is no concrete proposal for Andre,” he told Globo. “But we are sure that after the Club World Cup – he will play in the Club World Cup – a stratospheric proposal will arrive.

“It could be the biggest sale in the club's history. We could possibly lose both (Andre and defender Nino), but we are working to replace them.”

Along with Liverpool, Arsenal and Fulham are reportedly among the clubs also interested in Andre.

Anfield Watch has reported that the Reds will be given priority in a deal this January, after the good relations they made with club and player during the summer. However, whether Liverpool will choose to go in for Andre again remains to be seen.

What is clear is that when he leaves Fluminense, he will become the Brazilian club's record departure, surpassing the €17m received from Roma for Gerson back in 2016.
