Where Dominik Szoboszlai's Wolves sprint ranks among Premier League's fastest

Is there anything Dominik Szoboszlai can't do?

It's only been a few months since the handsome Hungarian rocked up at Liverpool and already he's:

As if all that wasn't enough, the £60m former RB Leipzig man is also absolutely rapid.

A true box-to-box midfielder, Szoboszlai's energy has been much discussed in his nascent Liverpool career – he made the Premier League top 10 for distance covered after gameweek four – but his raw pace is another sneaky attribute.

However, during Saturday's 3-1 comeback win over Wolves, fans got to see just how quick Liverpool's new number eight is as he chased down a Pedro Neto-led counter-attack in the second half.

Clips of the moment have done the rounds on social media, with Szoboszlai's lung-busting sprint apparently one of the fastest recorded in a Premier League game in recent years.

As recorded by Opta (via journalist Lewis Steele on X), Szoboszlai clocked a top speed of 36.76km per hour against Wolves.

That pace puts him third fastest of any player since the 2020/21 season – behind only Kyle Walker (obviously) and Chiedozie Ogbene – and is even quicker than teammate Mohamed Salah's top sprint in that timeframe.

Steele also notes that Szoboszlai, who has started every game so far in 2023/24, has run 57.7km, which is more than 7km more than any other Liverpool player. Phew!

Speaking after Liverpool latest win Szoboszlai praised Jurgen Klopp's half-time team talk for helping to turn the game around, with the score 1-0 to Wolves at the break.

"That we didn’t give up," the 22-year-old said. "At half-time the manager talked to us about the passion and what we needed in the second half, the work and what we needed to put into the game. I think we switched the formation and then everybody did their job and we turned the game."
