Curtis Jones has detailed the 'strange' moment before Jurgen Klopp made his big announcement to the Liverpool players last month.

After over eight years at the helm, Klopp decided to call time on his Liverpool tenure, revealing that he will stand down as manager at the end of the current season.

The decision came as a shock to both fans and players, with the Reds' squad only informed shortly before the announcement was made public on Friday, 26 January.

Several players have since addressed the news in the two weeks since, with Andy Robertson admitting 'nobody knew where to look' during the team meeting.

Now speaking to BBC's Football Focus, Jones has provided more details about the moment that caught the players off guard.

He said: “We were in the changing rooms as a team, I was actually inside the gym and we got told everybody has to be inside at half 10.

“He came in and it was a bit of a strange one. We didn’t know what was going to be said but I could feel it amongst the lads, it was a little bit strange.

“He broke the news, it was tough to take and stuff. He’s his own man and you have to respect the fact he’s got his own things that he wants to go and do with his family. He’s turned me from a boy to a man and I’m grateful for him. So is the team, so are the fans and the city and we hope to give him a good send off.”

Liverpool remain in the hunt for four trophies this season, with the squad focussed on delivering a perfect end to Klopp's time at Anfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold — who like Jones was given his Reds debut by Klopp —  revealed his 'fairytale' goodbye for the manager would be a celebratory one.

The right back said: "Cruising round Liverpool in an open top bus is the fairytale ending. For us as players, that's our motivation. That was our motivation at the start of the season and that's our motivation now, even more so, to give the manager the send off he deserves and he's earned."
