Reports have emerged which name a recent Champions League hat-trick scorer as a potential Mohamed Salah replacement - one the Reds have tracked for a long time.

German paper Bild allege that Liverpool have entered the race to sign Borussia Dortmund forward Karim Adeyemi, fresh from his European exploits against Celtic in which the 22-year-old German netted a first-half hat trick.

According to the report the Reds have been scouting him thoroughly in the Bundesliga and view him as a successor to Salah, whose contract situation is still no closer to being resolved as he enters the last eight months of his current deal.

Liverpool like Karim Adeyemi

Liverpool’s interest in Adeyemi is considered long-standing, having tracked him since 2016 when he was a part of lower-league side Unterhaching’s academy (per the Athletic). After his eye-catching displays at Red Bull Salzburg, Dortmund chose to spend a fairly sizeable €30m on Adeyemi, and now it seems like he could be on the move again.

Since his transfer to Dortmund, there have been questions around Adeyemi’s effectiveness and his consistency given the way he exploded onto the European scene with Salzburg back in the 2021/22 Champions League season, in which he had five goal contributions in eight games.

Now with this latest display against Celtic, Adeyemi looks to finally be at the level where Liverpool could conceivably look to him as a Salah replacement. It seems when referring to Adeyemi in the past pundits have really only picked up on his blistering pace, but the Celtic hat-trick is proving that he has now got the finishing to match his undeniable physical attributes.

What kind of fee Dortmund would ask for Adeyemi is also uncertain, but it would be in keeping with their tradition of developing young players into stars to think they could conceivably double their money with any potential sale of Adeyemi to the Reds.
