"Yet again" - Pundit thinks Premier League title race will be between two clubs

Former Leeds United player Noel Whelan believes that Liverpool signing Darwin Nunez and Manchester City acquiring Erling Haaland means first and second-place in the Premier League table are already occupied.

When Pep Guardiola's Manchester City announced the signing of Haaland, most people assumed that they'd claim their fifth title in six seasons next year.

However, Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool responded to the big news by bringing in their own number nine - Nunez.

Whelan believes that these signings mean it's going to be a shootout between the two clubs for the Premier League title once again.

“I think he’s coming in straight away as the out-and-out number nine," he told Football Insider.

“Liverpool and Manchester City haven’t had that option for a few seasons now. It’s nice to see two goalscorers and natural strikers again. I expect both of them to light up the Premier League. They’re coming in with good records in Portugal and Germany.

“Klopp has obviously been a big admirer of Nunez for a while. He scored twice in two games against Liverpool in the Champions League.

“I think it’s the perfect move. It’s one they had to make when you see Erling Haaland coming in at City.

“They’ve not messed about, they’ve got the deal done – and this has changed the dimension of the whole Premier League.

“It’s going to be a shoot-out for first and second yet again.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool and Manchester City have both needed a number nine for a few years now.

Guardiola's side probably have the more experienced forward, but Liverpool are definitely taking less of a risk when you compare the wages and agent fees that both clubs have paid.

It's going to be very exciting to see how both sides evolve next season to accommodate their goal-scoring strikers.
