Liverpool winners and losers from US pre-season tour as Arne Slot has five big calls

It has been a successful pre-season period for the Reds so far with plenty of players catching the eye in front of Arne Slot during the club's US tour.

Despite the pre-season beginning with a defeat to Preston behind closed doors and plenty of key players not travelling to the US, Arne Slot's side made the most of their trip to the States.

The Reds won all three games while away, including two big wins against rivals, Arsenal and Manchester United.

Along the way, there were also plenty of individuals who shone and showed their quality, giving Slot some decisions to ponder in the next few weeks ahead.

The losers from Liverpool's pre-season tour

One thing that became apparent very early on in the tour is that Arne Slot does not fancy Wataru Endo as his no.6. Endo struggled in Liverpool's opening game of the tour against Real Betis and did not start the other two matches - being handed only a marginal role in the two subsequent victories.

Rumours have sparked that Liverpool are open to listening to offers for the Japanese international - which means his fate seems almost doomed.

Andy Robertson is probably another one who will be disappointed by this tour - he picked up another injury in what has been a series of injuries for the Scotsman over the last 12 months, and it seems like his heydays are behind him.

Both Liverpool players now face uncertain futures at the club with their long-term place in the team undoubtedly questioned. Arne Slot has some important decisions to make alongside Richard Hughes and Michael Edwards.

But while there were disappointing performances, there were also some really encouraging individual showings, too.

Fabio Carvalho is probably the player who impressed the most - scoring against Arsenal and Manchester United. His fate seemed sealed to be away from Anfield after not breaking into Jurgen Klopp's side - but he's now had a new lease of life. Slot must decide whether to give him a go in the season ahead or whether Carvalho's future still lies elsewhere.

Caoimhin Kelleher also caught the eye with his performances. He's shown yet again he can be an excellent deputy to Alisson Becker and perhaps even a contender for the no.1 spot. It seems Slot has already made his decision with the rest of the recruitment staff to keep him at the club.

Another youngster who also stood-out is Sepp van den Berg. The Dutchman developed a strong connection with Slot and produced some solid displays on the pitch as well. He's wanted by several clubs but Liverpool are yet to receive the £20m fee they want for his services - meaning Slot may decide to keep him on at the club and make him his fourth or fifth choice centre-back.
