“Whoever finishes first or second" - Gary Neville weighs in on the title race

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville has given his opinion on the 2021-22 Premier League title race.

Second-placed Liverpool dropped points to Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield last Saturday. The game finished in a 1-1 draw.

On the other hand, league leaders Manchester City secured a 5-0 victory over Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium yesterday.

With three top-flight games to go, the Citizens possess a three-point lead over the Reds at the top of the table.

However, Neville has made it clear that if Liverpool don't win the title, they have not "bottled it".

“Whoever finishes first or second you won't say the other one has blown it or bottled it," he told Sky Sports, as quoted by Anfield Watch on Twitter.

"These two teams never disappoint with their work-rate or attitude. Being professional and preparing well is a permanent thing. These two teams do it so well.

“They care about their work, their attitude, their ethos. It's constant. Under Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, it's been faultless."

Neville added: “I do believe Wolves or West Ham could shock Manchester City. With Ruben Dias injured, they are going to teams who have got systems of play that can hurt City. The centre-back partnership has been obliterated.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Neville's take. The reality is, Liverpool have been superb in the Premier League this season.

The table/points tally backs up the aforementioned argument. But, the reality is, Manchester City have also been terrific.

As things stand, the Citizens will claim the title. However, as Neville said, anything could happen.

Only time will tell which side will be crowed champions of England for 2022. We wish Liverpool all the best for the remainder of the season.
