Liverpool appear to be closing in on a deal for Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch.

The 21-year-old midfielder has long been admired by Jurgen Klopp and the Reds' hierarchy. However, Bayern's stance was always not to sell.

That seems to have changed now, with the German champions preferring to move for Fulham's Joao Palhinha, while sanctioning Gravenberch's exit – for the right fee.

Liverpool have two days to come to an agreement on price and sort personal terms with the player, in order to land their fourth midfield signing of the summer.

If he arrives, Klopp will have got his desired 'versatile' option, with Gravenberch able to play a variety of roles across the midfield.

The Ajax academy graduate is also – despite a poor season in Germany – one of Europe's top young talents and could be an exciting long-term addition at Anfield.

Should terms be agreed, he will head to Merseyside for a medical before being unveiled ahead of Friday's 23:00 BST transfer deadline.

When could Gravenberch make his debut?

Even if Gravenberch is officially a Liverpool player by the weekend, it's unlikely he'll be ready to be thrown into the action straight away against Aston Villa.

The Dutch starlet has made just one substitute appearance for Bayern so far this season, and is unlikely to even get a training session in with the Reds in before they host Unai Emery's side this Sunday.

A much more realistic date for his Liverpool bow would be the first game after the international break, when the Reds travel to Wolves on Saturday, 16 September.

A first Anfield appearance could come in the following Premier League tie with West Ham (24 September) or the Carabao Cup third round tie with Leicester (26 September).

What number could Gravenberch wear for Liverpool?

Gravenberch has worn 38 at Bayern Munich – chosen for sentimental reasons as it was his first senior number at Ajax. In Amsterdam, however, he mostly sported the 8 shirt, though that is currently occupied by Dominik Szoboszlai at Liverpool.

With the Netherlands national team, the young midfielder has sported a variety of squad numbers, including 20, 14 and 16 – the latter two of which remain free at Anfield.

The 14 shirt in particular could be a tempting option for Gravenberch, having been worn by Liverpool midfield legends like Jordan Henderson, Xabi Alonso and Jan Molby.

From a Dutch perspective, it is, of course, also the number of Johan Cruyff.

The lowest shirt numbers currently available in the Liverpool squad are 12, 14, 15 and 16.
