"What Liverpool need" - Robbie Fowler on Liverpool's newest signing

Former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler has given his thoughts on the Reds' newest signing Darwin Nunez.

Speaking to Mirror Sport, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Fowler said that signing Nunez is a "sensible" plan to replace Sadio Mane.

“He’s scored goals in big games, scored in the Champions League against Barcelona, Bayern Munich and Liverpool, the best teams and the best defences. And even though he’s raw, there is clearly goalscoring quality within his play," he said.

“To me, that is what Liverpool need. They’ve been brilliant this past year, unbelievable. But you look at the biggest games and they didn’t always have that goalscoring edge. The Champions League final against Madrid was a game they should have won.

“But they didn’t because of missed chances. Nunez could eventually be that striker to convert those chances. With the raw quality Nunez has, he could be really exciting as he develops. To me, it seems like a sensible plan to replace Sadio Mane with him.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Paying €100 million for Nunez is definitely a risk. However, it is a risk that Liverpool need to take due to the circumstances.

Since Jurgen Klopp joined Liverpool back in 2015, we've needed a goalscoring striker. Under the guidance of the German, Nunez could become an all-time great of the club.

As long as he listens to Klopp, he should do well.

Opposition fans will expect him to score 30 goals next season due to his price tag. But, I'd be happy if he found the back of the net on 15 occasions next campaign, as he will need time to adjust to a new culture/league.

Pre-season is going to be huge for Nunez. If Klopp is impressed with him, then he could throw him straight into the starting XI alongside Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah.

Whatever happens, the future looks very exciting for Liverpool's forward line.
