"What impressed me more" - Danny Murphy on Luis Diaz against Palace

Former Liverpool player Danny Murphy has waxed lyrical about Reds winger Luis Diaz.

The Colombia international scored a superb goal against Crystal Palace at Anfield last night.

Diaz dribbled his way past a few Palace players and found the back of the net from long-range.

Murphy has given his verdict on the 25-year-old's performance against the Eagles.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told talkSPORT the following: "Sometimes you look at the defender and think, ‘What’s he done there? But the actual bits of skill to get past the players were immaculate. It was a really difficult shot to stop because of his manipulation on the ball.

"What impressed me more, forget the goal, when your team needs somebody to demand the ball and make things happen, he was getting on the ball, risking losing it, risking upsetting the crowd, that’s what top players do.

"Moreover, the work off the ball, the running back on about five occasions. He was sprinting 40 yards back to win the ball. That's what you call a super player and that mentality will be the biggest plus for Jurgen Klopp.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Murphy's take. Diaz, who is very technically gifted, is always looking to get on the ball.

With that being the case, he will always produce moments of brilliance. We absolutely loved Diaz's intensity last night.

The man never gave up. Without him, Liverpool would not have secured a point (1-1 draw).

Diaz is certainly on his way to becoming a fan favourite. Hopefully he can keep his head down and keep on improving as a footballer.

On another note, Liverpool are yet to secure a victory this season. The Reds have drawn their opening two games of the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.
