The Uruguay international was shown a straight red card after headbutting Eagles defender Joachim Andersen at Anfield last night.
It was frustrating to see the Reds go down to 10 men. But, Elliott has revealed that the Liverpool players got around Nunez come the end of the game.
He told LFCTV the following: “It’s not his fault to be honest because we conceded the goal in the first half which put us in that situation. For him its a learning curve and for the team its our fault as well, its not just him, it’s everyone’s fault.
“We’re instantly around him trying to lift him up. Obviously he’s very down in the changing room feeling sorry for the team and thinking its his fault, which it’s not, it’s all of our faults. It’s not singlehandedly him, it’s us as a collective, so we’re there for him.”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Nunez made a terrible mistake. However, he is only human at the end of the day. The aforementioned incident won't define his career.
It is brilliant to hear that the Liverpool players got around Nunez. He would have been feeling terrible after the match.
But, the reality is, Nunez will win more games than he loses for the Reds.
The striker scored 48 goals and registered 16 assists in 85 appearances for Benfica's first-team.
Therefore, we are prepared to be patient with Nunez. He could be a future star for Liverpool.
Because of the red card, Nunez will miss the club's next three Premier League fixtures.
