“We have seen it over and over again" - Roy Keane gives his verdict on Diogo Jota

Former Manchester United midfielder Roy Keane has given his opinion on Liverpool forward Diogo Jota.

The Portugal international found the back of the net against Cardiff City at Anfield last weekend. Jota's headed goal helped the Reds secure a 3-1 victory over the Bluebirds.

Keane was commentating on the aforementioned fourth round FA Cup match for ITV Sport. The Irishman was full of praise for Jota's aerial ability come the end of the game.

As quoted by HITC, Keane said the following: “I think it’s because of his size people underestimate him. I think Paul Scholes used to do the same.

“He used to get into these positions and people would go ‘I think he will be okay’.

“But we have seen it over and over again. When he does get them chances, he is outstanding in the air. It’s always great to see a player score a headed goal.

“It’s not even great movement. He just walks onto it. And the cross, of course, is of huge help.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Keane is absolutely spot on in his assessment of Jota. Footage highlights that the forward is very good in the air.

Overall, Jota has been superb for Liverpool since joining the club back in the summer of 2020.

The Portugal international has scored 28 goals in 59 appearances. There is no denying that Jota is perfectly suited to the way Liverpool play under Jurgen Klopp.

The 25-year-old presses and puts himself about. Reds assistant boss Pep Lijnders is big fan of that particular aspect of Jota's game.

“Diogo understands that it’s not about him, it’s about him, Sadio [Mane], Bobby [Firmino], Mo [Salah], it’s about togetherness," Lijnders said back in March 2021.

He added: "Adapting to our pressing style isn’t easy but with him it goes very naturally."

Hopefully Jota can continue his good form going into the future.
