"We don't have to discuss his quality" - Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool defender

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has recently had plenty of good things to say about Reds centre-back Joe Gomez.

The Englishman has not played too much football for Liverpool this season. Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip have been Klopp's first-choice centre-backs across the 2021-22 campaign.

Gomez has only made 14 appearances for the Reds this season. But, the 24-year-old started against Norwich City at Anfield earlier this week.

Gomez performed well in the aforementioned FA Cup fifth round clash in the eyes of Klopp. The German was full of praise for the defender after the match.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, Klopp said the following during his post-match press conference: "Joe Gomez, we don't have to discuss his quality, he showed it tonight. That's what we need to be a success long-term. The boys have to be ready."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Gomez is a talented player. The centre-back averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.78 across the 2019-20 Premier League campaign (the season Liverpool won the title).

However, since then, injuries have impacted Gomez's availability, which is a key reason why he has lost his place to Matip in the side.

With that being the case, Gomez has recently been linked with a move away from the club. But, Matip is 30 years of age. The former Schalke man can't play on forever.

Therefore, we are confident that Gomez will become a regular in Klopp's side again. Hopefully he stays and fights for his place at Anfield.

Gomez is only 24 years of age, so he certainly has time on his side. The Englishman's contract does not expire until the summer of 2024.

But, only time will tell where Gomez's long-term future lies. We hope it's at Liverpool.
