"We didn't win one game" - Jurgen Klopp on Liverpool's rivalry vs Chelsea

Jurgen Klopp has spoken about how difficult Chelsea are to play against under Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to ESPN, as quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, the Liverpool boss said that despite finishing ahead of the Blues in the Premier League last season, Tuchel's side are not far behind the Reds.

Klopp said: “We are not that far ahead. That's always a misunderstanding of the points tally of last season. We played Chelsea - I don't know how many points more we had, I don't - but we played them four times and we didn't win one game against them.

“It's not because we are bad that day - no, we were really good in those games - but over 90 minutes each time, before the penalties (in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup finals), we never won, so Chelsea are incredibly strong.

"I'm not interested in the points we had last year, I'm only interested in what we can get this season. But I am positive, really optimistic, but I'm not sure, so we will have to fight and see what the outcome is.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Even though Liverpool finished 18 points ahead of Chelsea last season, they were hard to beat.

The Reds faced off against Tuchel's side four times last campaign and they didn't win one of those matches during the 90 minutes.

The two games we beat them in had to be decided on penalties. Luckily Liverpool won both of those shootouts and managed to win the FA Cup and EFL Cup.

Despite the big points difference, if Tuchel can recruit well this summer, then Chelsea could be a real threat for the Premier League title next season.

However, I still think Manchester City and Liverpool are the two best teams in the division. They have been the standout sides for several years now.
