Two Liverpool players at risk of suspension today; could force changes

Liverpool will have two players at risk of suspension when they take on Burnley in the Premier League today. Jurgen Klopp may need to make changes.

Liverpool travel to take on Burnley today in their most straightforward game of the Christmas period. The Reds have faced Manchester United, West Ham United in the Carabao Cup, Arsenal and have Newcastle United coming up on New Year's Day.

This is the only fixture, then, where Liverpool are overwhelming favourites. But that doesn't mean Jurgen Klopp is without headaches for his selection today.

The biggest one surrounds two players one yellow card away from suspension. Wataru Endo and Darwin Nunez will receive one-game bans if they pick up bookings against Burnley.

That would take them out of contention for the squad against Newcastle United - a 'trickier' game than Burnley. It could well be that Klopp decides to leave both out of his squad in order to save them for the Magpies.

The busy Christmas period is, after all, a time for rotation and rest. Here's an excuse to rest both Endo and Nunez - two players who will almost certainly play key roles against Newcastle.

It's also worth mentioning that Endo got booking no.4 in the first-half against Arsenal. Klopp did trust him to play the rest of the 90, though - it may be that he trusts him to start against Burnley and avoid a yellow.

Nunez is a different case. Unlike Endo, Liverpool do have alternatives in attack to the Uruguayan and saving him for Newcastle makes a lot of sense. Especially after his efforts earlier in the season where he won the match at St. James' Park with a two-goal cameo from the bench.

Klopp has some decisions to make, then. The yellow-card mark for suspension jumps from five to 10 after this game, so Liverpool do only need to worry about it once more.
