Liverpool transfers: Szoboszlai ENDORSES national teammate for Anfield move

Say it quietly, but change is occurring at Liverpool.

Slowly, surely, the club is finding long-term solutions and avoiding problems before they become immediate. New Sporting Director Richard Hughes is at the centre of this project.

Recently, reports have emerged of Liverpool’s apparent interest in Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez, who Hughes signed in his previous role at the south coast club. These reports intensified earlier in the week as Fabrizio Romano reported both Chelsea and Manchester United’s interest in the Hungarian defender is waning.

And a new twist in the tale has emerged today, with Liverpool’s own incumbent Hungarian, Dominik Szoboszlai, liking an Instagram post linking his national teammate to the club. Whilst it's not worth overreacting to, the clear link and support between Szoboszlai and the 20-year-old left-back makes the situation not just any other transfer saga.

The post, from Transfermarkt, indicates that Liverpool are currently monitoring the status of Kerkez. Keen-eyed Reds couldn’t miss Szoboszlai’s name in the likes, and the comments are currently full of people saying ‘Szobo give him a call’ and ‘Captain Szobo as an Agent, call him’.

It is well-documented that Szoboszlai and Kerkez have a good relationship. The two swapped shirts after Liverpool’s 9-0 drubbing of Bournemouth at Anfield last season, with the Liverpool player quipping, “I’ll have something to wipe the dust with!”.

With Andy Robertson turning 31 this season and his current contract up at the end of next season, new Sporting Director Hughes will be forced to think about the future of the position. After being linked with a move back to his native Greece this summer, current backup Kostas Tsimikas may not be the answer to this question.

If that is so, Kerkez could be the future at Anfield.
