"They push us to the wire" - Raheem Sterling pays credit to Liverpool

Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has labelled Liverpool as "a great opponent".

The 2021-22 Premier League title race went right down to the wire. However, Liverpool ended up falling one-point short of champions Manchester City.

After the Citizens claimed the trophy on the final day, Sterling paid tribute to the Reds.

“Each year we come in, we know how difficult it’s going to be with the teams that we have,” he told Sky Sports, as quoted by the BBC.

“Liverpool is a great opponent. Every year, they push us to the wire. This is why we can achieve things like this, it’s because of them.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

Sterling is spot on in his assessment of Liverpool. They are a great side. The Reds have pushed Manchester City, arguably the best team in the world, for four years.

Hopefully Jurgen Klopp and his team can go again next season. The German possesses a very good squad, so we are confident that Liverpool will be competing for the league title again in the near future.

On another note, we don't particularly like to see Sterling winning silverware. It's not because the winger is a former Red.

It's simply because of how he forced his way out of the club. Therefore, we aren't going to congratulate him on winning the title.

We will give credit to the the remainder of the Manchester City team. They have been absolutely brilliant over the years.

The Citizens have claimed four of the past five league titles. Pep Guardiola's team are only going to be harder to stop with Erling Haaland joining the club ahead of next season.

The forward scored 86 goals in 89 appearances for Borussia Dortmund's first-team. But, as we have already stated, Klopp possesses a squad capable of challenging. Next season should be brilliant to watch.
