"They are still a great team" - Arsene Wenger on Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool

Pundit Arsene Wenger has given his verdict on Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool side.

Under the German, the Reds have only won one Premier League title. But, Wenger still classes Klopp's Reds as a "great team".

The Frenchman also touched on Liverpool's 2021-22 campaign.

As quoted by Anfield Watch's Twitter account, he told the Liverpool Echo the following: "Liverpool won the championship only once but that doesn't mean when they finished second they are a bad team. They are still a great team. When you lose a championship over 38 games by one point (last season), you cannot say it is a failure.

"It is still a fantastic season for Liverpool. People always speak only when you win, but there are seasons when you don't win where you have still played fantastic football."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Wenger's take. Yes, Liverpool would have liked to have claimed another Premier League title in recent times.

But, the reality is, the Reds have been up against a brilliant Manchester City side. The Citizens have claimed four of the past five league titles.

However, Liverpool have also been really successful at the same time. Klopp's Reds have claimed six major trophies (including the Champions League and Premier League title).

It is important to remember that the Klopp era is far from over. The 55-year-old is contracted until the conclusion of the 2025-26 campaign.

Therefore, Klopp has time to add to his legacy. Only time will tell if that is to be the case.
