"The talks" - Fabrizio Romano provides update on reported Liverpool target
Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Bukayo Saka's future.
The Arsenal winger and reported Liverpool target is out of contract at the conclusion of the 2023-24 campaign.
With that being the case, Romano has confirmed that the Gunners are trying to agree new terms with the 20-year-old.
“The talks between Arsenal and Bukayo Saka’s camp have been going on since February,” he told Caught Offside in his Daily Briefing for the publication.
“Arsenal consider Saka a key player and think his contract extension is like a new signing, it is a priority for this summer.
“The top English clubs have been monitoring the situation for some time but the good news for Gunners supporters is that Arsenal is the player’s priority: Saka loves the club and there is a negotiation in progress.
“Honestly, I think it is ideal for Bukayo to stay at Arsenal because the project is very clear, ambitious and with a manager who believes in him: Mikel Arteta is a big fan of Saka.
“In my opinion over the years he could end up being worth even more than €100 million. Remember that Saka is only 20 years old!”
Anfield Watch Verdict
Saka is a fine talent. The winger scored 12 goals and registered seven assists in 43 appearances for Arsenal's first-team last season.
Saka also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 6.97 across the 2021-22 campaign. The England international is only 20 years of age, which means that he is far from the finished article.
So, we would certainly welcome Saka to Anfield. He would add some quality and depth to Jurgen Klopp's attack.
However, Liverpool would have to spend a bit of money to sign Saka. The forward possesses a current market value of £58.50 million.
Only time will tell if the Reds and Saka are to cross paths in the near future.
