The player ratings from Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Southampton

Liverpool defeated Southampton 2-1 at St Mary's last night.

Nathan Redmond gave the Saints the lead after 13 minutes of action. However, Takumi Minamino equalised for the Reds shortly after.

It took until the second-half for Jurgen Klopp's team to take the lead. Joel Matip scored via a header.

Below are the player ratings from the aforementioned Premier League clash.

Alisson - Goalkeeper - 7/10

Alisson was composed right throughout the game. There was nothing the shot-stopper could have done about Redmond's strike.

Joe Gomez - Right-back - 6.5/10

Gomez was solid defensively, but he did not offer much going forward.

The Englishman also had to leave the pitch during the first-half due to a foot injury. Gomez has had better games.

Joel Matip - Centre-back - 7.5/10

Matip was the senior figure in the back four and he lead reasonably well. The centre-back cleaned up when he needed to.

Also, as we have already pointed out, Matip scored the decisive goal of the match.

Ibrahima Konate - Centre-back - 8.5/10

Konate was excellent. The Frenchman won the ball back on numerous occasions and got Liverpool on the front foot.

Konate has proven to be a very good signing this season. The exciting thing about the defender is that he is only 22 years of age. Konate only has room for improvement.

Kostas Tsimikas - Left-back - 8/10

Tsimikas nullified Kyle Walker-Peters and played the cross into the box which allowed Matip to score.

Overall, the Greece international had a pretty good night.

James Milner - Holding Midfield - 7/10

There was nothing flashy about Milner's game. But, the 36-year-old broke up the play when required and did look to keep the ball moving.

In other words, we thought Milner did Fabinho proud.

Harvey Elliott - Midfield - 8/10

Elliott was really impressive in midfield. Until last night, the 19-year-old had not played for Liverpool's first-team since March.

So, we initially thought that he might be a bit scratchy. However, Elliott was anything but.

The Englishman linked up well with his teammates and caused Southampton's defence a few issues.

Curtis Jones - Midfield - 8/10

Jones was solid with the ball at his feet and made the game look easy at times.

However, we loved his effort more than anything. Jones fought for everything. It was an impressive display from the Scouser.

Takumi Minamino - Forward - 7.5/10

Minamino was quiet early on, but when he was given an opportunity to score, he took it with both hands.

The Japan international is not a regular in Klopp's starting XI. However, Minamino's strike against Southampton could prove to be crucial in the Premier League title race.

Manchester City only possess a one-point lead over Liverpool heading into the final match of the season.

Roberto Firmino - Forward - 8/10

Firmino was very good. Although the Brazil international did not score, he was proving to be a nuisance for Southampton's defence.

Firmino was always on the move and creating space for his teammates. It was a typical Bobby performance.

Diogo Jota - Forward - 6/10

Another quiet game for Jota. The Portugal international has been out of form lately. He appears to be lacking confidence, which is strange considering he always plays with a swagger.

However, despite the fact that Jota isn't having the best of times at the moment, he has still scored 21 goals and registered eight assists in 53 appearances this season.

Jordan Henderson - Midfield - 7/10

Henderson replaced Gomez for the second-half. The midfielder put in a shift.

Divock Origi - Forward - 5/10

Origi, who replaced Elliott, offered very little during his 25 minutes on the pitch.

Naby Keita - Midfield - N/A

Keita came on for Firmino 82 minutes into the match. He wasn't given enough time to make an impact.
