"The performance" - Harvey Elliott reflects on clash against Man City

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has reflected on the team's performance against Manchester City in the Community Shield final last weekend.

The Reds secured a 3-1 victory over the Citizens at the King Power Stadium. Elliott said that the performance from his teammates was "unbelievable".

“The performance from the lads (against City) was unbelievable, from the boys that came on to the boys that started,” he told Liverpoolfc.com.

“No-one looked tired and no-one looked lethargic in any areas of the game. To top it off with a win proved and showed what our performance was like. It’s all credit to the boys who played a part and just as a team we stuck together throughout pre-season.

“That’s all credit to us and the coaching staff to get some silverware at the start of the season, which has put us in good stepping stones for the season.

“Hopefully we can just keep adding to it this season, which is our aim. Our focus now is on Fulham. We have a week to build up to it and hopefully we can start off with a flyer.”

Anfield Watch Verdict

It is never an easy task to beat Manchester City. So, to secure a 3-1 victory over the Citizens in the Community Shield final was a fine effort by Klopp's team.

Last weekend, Liverpool showed that they aren't going anywhere. The Reds will once again challenge for the Premier League title.

On another note, Elliott was bright against the Citizens. The midfielder came on as a second half substitute and looked to make things happen.

Elliott registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.27 for his 17-minute performance against the Citizens.

However, with Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho all fit, Elliott probably won't start against Fulham at Craven Cottage this weekend.

The Premier League clash will kick-off at 12:30pm on Saturday.
