"The impact he’s had at Liverpool" - Rio Ferdinand praises Red

Former Manchester United centre-back Rio Ferdinand has praised Liverpool winger Luis Diaz.

The Reds signed the 25-year-old from Porto for a transfer fee of £40.50 million back in January.

Since then, Diaz has performed well. The Colombia international has scored four goals and registered three assists in 20 appearances for Liverpool's first-team.

With that being the case, Ferdinand believes that Diaz has been the standout signing of the season.

He told his podcast the following (37:00): “Listen, Luis Diaz, the impact he’s had at Liverpool. Especially in the forward areas, before he came we said that an injury would see the quality drop down dramatically, but he’s now vying to be in the first three. (Roberto) Firmino would struggle to get in there, he’s probably ahead of (Diogo) Jota now.

“I just think he’s been a breath of fresh air, it’s not even on the ball, you can see with the ball he has the skills, he’s deceptive and he moves players, but his reaction when they lose the ball is unreal. He’s like a trigger to get it back, for those reasons he’s the standout signing of the season for me."

Anfield Watch Verdict

We completely agree with Ferdinand that Diaz has been exceptional since joining Liverpool. The winger looks so lively when he gets on the ball.

We also agree with Ferdinand that Diaz is arguably in Liverpool's best XI now. He has started in 13 of his 20 appearances for the Reds.

As we have already pointed out, Diaz is only 25 years of age. Therefore, it would be fair to assume that his best years are still to come. Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp does have a track record of improving players.

So, who knows how good Diaz could become.
