"The game we wanted to play" - Jurgen Klopp on result against Rangers

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp was delighted with his team's display against Rangers at Anfield last night.

The Reds secured a 2-0 victory over the Scottish Premiership side. Liverpool looked lively throughout the Champions League group stage fixture.

Post-game, Klopp said that he was thrilled with how his side played across the 90 minutes.

"Good game โ€“ actually the game we wanted to play," he told the club's official website.

"A really good defensive performance in a new structure. Offensively, (we) created an awful lot without using, Rangers' goalie made a couple of really nice saves and we missed some others. But I liked it a lot.

"The two goals we scored were really nice. OK, one is a penalty but the move from Lucho (Diaz) for the pen was really good and we played good in these areas. And the free-kick from Trent (Alexander-Arnold) was outstanding.

"I said it now to all the others (interviewers), I can say it here again: set-piece goals are actually my favourite goals because you don't have to wait for VAR, you just can celebrate them.

"So in the end, I think Rangers came up a little bit but with one situation really where Ali (Alisson) had to make a save, but apart from that, I liked the game a lot."

Anfield Watch Verdict

Liverpool were in control against Rangers. The Reds have struggled to stamp their authority on games so far this season.

But, that was not the case against Rangers. Hopefully Liverpool can build on their victory against the Glasgow-based club.

The Reds have looked off the pace for the majority of the season. So, things eventually need to take a turn for the better.

Perhaps the result against Rangers is Liverpool's turning point for the 2022-23 campaign.

The change of formation appeared to work. Klopp normally plays a 4-3-3, but he opted for a 4-2-3-1 against Rangers.

We would not be surprised if the German does not change anything heading into the next few games.
