Liverpool team news: injury and availability updates ahead of trip to Wolves

After the long international break, Liverpool are back in action this weekend, in the early Saturday kick off.

The Reds will hope not to have lost momentum after a strong start to the season, but travel to Wolves – the site of one of their worst defeats of 2022/23 – without their captain or vice-captain.

Speaking in his Friday press conference, Jurgen Klopp provided updates on the availability questions in his squad ahead of the trip to Molineux.

Trent Alexander-Arnold

One man who is definitely out of contention is Liverpool's vice-captain. Klopp confirmed that the 24-year-old will sit out the game as he recovers from the hamstring injury that kept him out of international duty with England.

Klopp told reporters: "He [Alexander-Arnold] is not available. We knew that before. He didn't train with the team. It's not the worst hamstring injury but it's a hamstring injury. We hope he can start, because he's running already, ball work early next week."

Ibrahima Konate

It's better news regarding Konate, however.

The centre back has missed the Reds last two outings and withdrew from the France squad during the international break with his own hamstring issue.

Klopp revealed on Friday that Konate has been back in training for two days, heightening his chances of making the team this weekend.

Thiago Alcantara

Liverpool's 32-year-old midfielder remains unavailable for the weekend as he steps up his latest recovery efforts.

Klopp confirmed that the former Bayern star is 'running' but the trip to Wolves will likely be too early for him to be involved, with previous reports suggesting a possible return date of the end of September.

Meanwhile, Thiago's agent has shot down rumours of a Turkish deadline day switch to the Super Lig.

Stefan Bajcetic

Bajcetic should be in contention this weekend, having made his debut for Spain Under-21s during the international break.

Klopp said the 18-year-old 'had a good camp' on national team duty, with the former Celta Vigo starlet continuing to work towards full fitness following his adductor injury that cut his breakthrough 2022/23 campaign short.

Ryan Gravenberch

Klopp kept his cards close to his chest on whether Liverpool's latest signing – who skipped international duty this September to acclimatise at his new club – would feature at the weekend.

Speaking about the £34m deadline day arrival, the boss said: "He's a player at a new club so he's had training sessions here. We have games every 3 days now so he knows where he will live, he has a car and he has organised everything around that. I understand the Dutch were not happy but he used the break to fix a lot."

He later added: "He's a good guy with massive potential. He has to fit in, he will, how long it will take, I don't know. We will work on that, I'm happy he is and we can start that."

The Reds' South American contingent (barring Alisson Becker) all remain major doubts to start on Saturday following their international exploits this week.

Nuñez was reported to have suffered 'muscular difficulties' during his time with Uruguay, while Mac Allister Diaz only arrived back to Liverpool early on Thursday morning.

In his press conference, Klopp revealed that he would wait to make calls on who is ready to feature.

He said: "We would've loved to have carried on after Villa. Mac Allister played in Bolivia 30 hours ago, so let's see where we can pick up. Not seen the players yet but we can make decisions about tomorrow.

"I didn't see him yet [Nuñez], we had contact but he is fine, but there will be decisions."
